ShareX is essentially targeted for advanced users, developers and testers. It is used to make full screen or partial screen captures. The captured screenshot can be defined and edited using the integrated image editor or adjusted using image effects before saving it as an image file, clipboard, printer, email attachment or remote host.

ShareX integrates the next methods to allow screen capture.

- Fullscreen: Takes a screenshot of the whole screen area.
- Active window: Takes the actually active window.
- Active monitor: Captures the display zone where the mouse cursor is at that moment.
- Region: Enables you to take screenshot from an unique rectangle or more rectangular areas drawn by the mouse.
- Region (Windows and controls): Enables you to take a screenshot of a rectangle area.
- Region (Light): Basic variant of rectangle capture developed for slow computers.
- Region (Transparent): Enables you to do rectangle screenshots from non frozen screen.
- Freehand: Enables you to draw zones comparable to drawing with pencil and the inside area will be captured.
- Custom region: You can make custom region to be taken with hotkey from task settings.
- Screen recording: You can save a selected area on your display or the whole display.
