JPEGsnoop is a free to use Microsoft Windows program that analyzes and decodes the inner information of JPEG, MotionJPEG AVI or Photoshop files. It can also be used to examine the source of an image to test its accuracy.

Each digital picture includes a wealth of hidden data - JPEGsnoop was developed to expose these information to those who are interested.

Not only can one find the various settings that were used in the digital camera in taking the picture (EXIF metadata, IPTC), but one can also extract data that reveals the quality and nature of the JPEG image compression used by the camera in saving the file. Every digical cameras defines a compression levels, many of them being very different, discovering that some cameras create far better JPEG pictures than others.

One of the newest features in JPEGsnoop is an internal database that analyzes an image against a big number of compression signatures. JPEGsnoop reports what digital camera or program was likely used to create the image. This is very useful in finding whether or not a picture has been edited or tampered in any way.
