GeoTools is a free and open source collection of tools and methods for handling geospatial data. The library's data structures were built on the base of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) specifications.
This software provides the definition of several interfaces for data structures and key spatial concepts. Thanks to its plug-in system the program supports additional formats. You can extend the program's functionality by installing plug-ins for database, raster and geospatial file formats.
GeoTools also integrates a series of extensions that will offer extra capabilities and provide networking and graph support, bindings for XML parsing, a web map server client, validation, band encoding and style generation. The tool also cleans data access API supporting various features.
GeoTools provides special database support for a wide range of databases, including Oracle, DB2, MySQL, SQL Server, etc. A set raster plugins is also available.
GeoTools features a powerful rendering engine which allows low memory use and provides powerful schema assisted parsing technology that uses XML Schema to bind to Java items.
