ConEmu starts a console application in a secret console window, and offers an alternative customizable user interface window with a lot of useful features:

- friendly and smooth window resizing;
- tabs for editors, viewers, consoles and panels ;
- run simple user interface applications like PuTTY in tabs;
- Microsoft Windows 7 Jump Lists and Progress on Taskbar buttons;
- Simply run old DOS program (games) in Microsoft Windows 7 or 64-bit OS;
- normal, maximized and full display graphical window modes;
- window font anti-aliasing: ClearType, standard, disabled;
- window fonts: height, family, width, italic, bold, etc.;
- Chinese variants of Windows supported;
- using normal, bold, italic fonts for various parts of the console at the same time;
- working with 24-bit colors in Far Manager 3.x;
- cursor: regular console (horizontal) or GUI (vertical);
- ANSI X3.64 and Xterm 256 colors;
- vertical console buffer scrolling with the keyboard (BufferHeight method);
- optional per-program settings (e.g. palette);
- limited compatibility of BDF fonts;
- transparency or desktop mode;
- user friendly text or block selection;
- customizable starting tabs;
- configurable or clickable status bar;
