This is a program that grants you to finally remove files and folders (no restoring possible). The application is also able to overwrite the free space on a disk, which means, that already removed files cannot be recovered, too. Alternate File Shredder enables you to wipe files and/or folders definitely, which means they cannot be restored by recovery applications. This is realized in that way, that before the file is removed, its content will be overwritten with a arbitrary content or zero-values various times. The final result is, that recovery application may recover the file, but the content is altered - so the file gets useless. Maybe you already removed some documents, which you better like to be shred. Here the software offers the chance to shred the free space from a drive. This is realized by writing information into the entire free disk space and remove it afterwards. This is required to make sure, that all actual file fragments are overwritten.
