Microsoft Windows will directly download and install updates for your Microsoft security program. You don't need to do anything, and you will receive a new update once a day if your PC is frequently connected to the Internet.
If automatic updates aren't working there might be a problem with your computer:
- Fix a problem with Microsoft Windows Update
- Reset Windows Update components
Some viruses can turn off Microsoft Update. In this case you might want to work with Microsoft Safety Scanner or, for more obstinate viruses, Windows Defender Offline.
You also have the possibility to force Microsoft Windows or your other programs to download and install the latest release of the daily update. This works exactly the same as when Microsoft Windows automatically downloads the update, and can be effective if you aren't constantly connected to the Internet or you haven't used your computer on for a few days.
If you want the absolutely latest updates, you can manually download and install them.
- Your computer will be protected against the latest threats.
- This definition update package can be installed without requiring an active Internet connection.
