When you use your web browser to connect to a specific domain, this will be automatically converted into an IP address by your browser in order to be accessed. This operation is called Domain Name Resolution and is performed through a process known as DNS (Domain Name System), no matter of the operating system installed on your machine (Unix, Netware, Apple, Linux, or Windows). DNS is the standard service widely used on the Internet, but it's not the only one. The other method of resolving domain names involves the use of your HOSTS file. All the operating systems communicate via the TCP/IP protocol, which is the communication standard on the World Wide Web. This protocol has a file known as the HOSTS file, which enables you to create mappings between IP addresses and domain names. You could say that the hosts file acts as an address translation and forwarding tool.
The Bluelife hosts editor is an application which will let you edit the hosts file and easily update, block, add or delete domain names. All you have to do is just to type the hostname you wish to add or modify and press the “Resolve domain name and add in to the list” button.
This tool is also multilingual and provides an user interface translated into German, Swedish, Spanish, Russian, English, Turkish, Simplified Chinese,Traditional Chinese, Ukrainian, Hungarian, French, Japanese, Persian, Polish, Italian, Armenian, Korean and Greek languages.
